How does the word count checker count words?
We load each page the way a search engine does and count every word in the visible text of the page body — headings, paragraphs, lists, buttons, menus and footers. Scripts, styles and hidden code are ignored. Numbers count as words, and words joined by an apostrophe count once.
Why is the count different from my word processor?
Your editor counts only the article you wrote. A live page also carries the menu, footer, sidebars and calls to action, so its count is usually higher. The report shows how much of each page is common template text, so you can see how many words are really unique to the page.
How many words should a page have?
There is no magic number — the right length is whatever fully answers the search. As a guide, service and product pages usually need 300 to 800 words of useful copy, and in-depth guides 1,200 words or more. Pages under 300 words are flagged as thin because they rarely have enough substance to rank.
Does word count affect SEO?
Not directly — Google does not rank pages by length. But very short pages often fail to answer the question, and very long pages can bury the answer. Comparing word counts across your site quickly shows which pages need more depth and which need a trim or a split.
How many pages can I check for free?
Up to 50 pages per scan — choose 10, 25 or 50. For a larger website, request our free detailed audit and we will review the whole site for you.
Can I check a single page?
Yes. Enter the page address and choose 10 pages: the page you entered is always the first row of the report, with its word count, reading time, headings and paragraphs.
