What is a broken link checker?
A broken link checker crawls your website the way a search engine does, follows every link and image it finds, and reports the ones that return an error such as 404 Not Found or 500 Server Error — together with the page and anchor text where each broken link appears, so you can fix it in minutes.
Do broken links hurt SEO?
Yes, indirectly. Broken internal links waste crawl budget, stop link equity flowing to important pages and leave visitors at dead ends, which hurts engagement and conversions. Broken external links make content look neglected. Fixing them is one of the quickest technical SEO wins.
How many pages does the free checker scan?
Up to 500 pages per scan — choose 100, 250 or 500. We check every internal link, every image and, if you leave the option on, every external link we find on those pages (up to 2,500 unique URLs per scan).
Why are some links marked “could not verify”?
Sites such as LinkedIn, Instagram and many Cloudflare-protected websites block automated requests and answer with 403, 429 or 999 even when the page works in a browser. We list them separately so they never inflate your broken-link count — open them by hand to confirm.
What is the difference between a broken link and a redirect?
A broken link ends in an error page. A redirected link still works but makes visitors and crawlers take an extra hop (for example 301 Moved Permanently). The report lists internal links that point to redirects so you can update them to the final URL.
Does the crawler respect robots.txt?
Yes. Pages your robots.txt disallows are skipped and listed in the report, and we crawl politely with a limited number of parallel requests so your server is never overloaded.
